Then and Now

Sometimes I wonder if we were designed for a different time – a time of rape (or compromise) and techlessness, a time of taking directly and interacting directly – and we have come to our time – of subdued second guessing, justified paranoia in every possible direction, and wandering through hyperlinks of instant gratification – without potential to fulfill.

Then – unpredictable becomings.

Now – self-classified and curated profiles.

Then – untethered except by landlines.

Now – on-call (even on display) 24/7

Then – make do.

Now – choice.

But I know we change with the times,

And I know we never were floating seamlessly towards fulfillment,

And I KNOW rape is wrong,

But I still wonder how we’re going to make this work.
